Emergency Preparedness:

In addressing emergency preparedness, there are some threats to communities that are common to all-such as a pandemic outbreak, a chemical spill, or a terrorist attack-and these would all require similar types of planning. The risk for natural disasters, however, varies considerably depending on the locale.

Choose a type of natural or human-made disaster that is relevant for your area. I choose Tornadoes.

Describe the disaster that could/does occur in your area and give some examples of the appropriate type of public health response, including first response and later stages of recovery.

Review the materials on your state or local website, and determine how well-prepared your are is to deal with this type of disaster.

Discuss some of the materials on you found for preparedness. Be sure to aim your discussion towards educating your scholarly peers about what is there rather than towards an individual member of the public who might be using the materials. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the plan? Are there noticeable gaps?

Please try to support your discussion with at least one primary research articles, for scholarly depth. However, MMWR article and scholarly article will be acceptable this week. Be sure to cite any governmental websites used in your discussion
