PUBLIC SPEAKING:
You will log on to WWW.TED.COM and watch a number of speeches that you find interesting. Choose three (3) of your favorite and write a formal 3-5 page paper (double-spaced, APA format) comparing and contrasting the style, delivery, organization, and effectiveness of the three speeches.
This assignment will include: 1. A clear introduction, body and conclusion 2. Name of each speaker and delivery date of their speech 3. Detailed analysis of similarities and differences between the three speeches, noting in particular style, delivery, organization, and effectiveness 4. Multiple references to concepts and information in the textbooks 5. Your opinion of which of the three speeches was the best and why
From the syllabus: You will complete one written assignment for this class in addition to the speech outlines. Paper must be typed and conform to APA standards. Late papers are subject to the following penalty: For each calendar day a paper is late a 10% deduction is applied. 3 days late = 30% penalty.
All written work must utilize standard source citation format for acknowledging source material. Use the APA citation format. Be sure to acknowledge directly quoted material as well as general ideas taken from outside sources. Failure to follow these rules in either written or oral presentation form constitutes plagiarism. Paper must be typed and double spaced with 1” margins, using either Times New Roman or Courier New font with a font size of 12. Papers will be evaluated on the quality of the discussion, writing style, and mechanics. All papers are graded for both content and form which includes, but is not limited to, spelling, grammar, organization, sentence structure and APA source citation. I am looking for college level papers; grammatically correct, free of spelling errors, clearly identifiable thesis, body and conclusion, etc.
WRITTEN WORK GRADING RUBRIC
A (68-75 pts) Exceptionally complete, detailed, and accurate. No grammatical problems or errors. B (60-68 pts) Above average paper. Very complete, detailed and accurate. Few grammatical problems and errors C (52-60 pts) Meets minimum requirements. Mostly complete, may have an error in content and may need more explanation. Few grammatical problems and errors. D (44-52 pts) Not a complete paper, one or two error in content, Needs much more detail in explanation. Several grammatical problems. F (44 pts or less) Numerous grammatical and/or spelling mistakes, Two or more errors in content. Unclear.
A complete paper is a paper that addresses all aspects of the assignment. A complete paper defines and discusses all assigned topics and concepts related to the topic. Examples used in the paper have clear links to the concept.
A detailed paper is a paper that provides enough information to follow the discussion provided. Make sure examples used are described in enough detail to convey understanding of the topic.
An accurate paper is a paper that defines and explains the concepts that make up the topic. Any examples used must correctly support the claims.

Public speaking often incorporates various techniques and kinds of delivery. You may end up having to commit certain parts of the speech to your memory, occasionally having to read a note that you made in your notes or cards, you may have to throw in some statements that are of humor, or even make some impromptu remarks as you go on. Whenever the delivery style seems flexible, it will portray the speech maximized and simply continue to evolve, and this will make you feel comfortable…………………………….….
