In my professional experience, actual barriers have been less of an issue than anticipated barriers, though. This is true for both the counselor and the client. Regarding the latter, clients have related that they only want to see someone of the same ethnicity, religion, sex, or age as them as they believe that only someone similar will understand them.
There are indeed pros regarding such an approach. What are some of the limitations to such “matching,” though, Class?
