As a medical assistant, you will be caring for patients that often present to a clinic setting experiencing disorders of the digestive system.
In a short essay:
Describe the major activities of the digestive system: ingestion, propulsion, mechanical breakdown, chemical digestion, absorption, and elimination.
Along with your description of each of the digestive steps, identify at least one related disorder. Be sure to include common symptoms and potential treatments for each disorder.
Describe the role that you, as a medical assistant, might play in caring for these patients.
You will need to include images and references to support your work. Include a minimum of two images and two APA style references.
Example: Pica is an example of a digestive disorder related to ingestion. The symptoms of pica include craving or eating things that are not considered food. Treatments for pica include vitamins, supplements, and a healthy diet if the pica disorder is related to a nutritional deficiency. If there is no nutritional deficiency noted, psychiatric treatments such as counseling, education, and therapy might be used.
