Most people have lived through minor and major trauma and often present with trauma-related symptoms in counseling. Counselors must be able to identify these symptoms and understand their impact on a client’s life to fully conceptualize an issue to plan effective treatment. We can better serve the diverse needs of our clients by learning to recognize different theoretical perspectives on trauma.
In this assignment, you will apply a theoretical perspective in your case conceptualization of a client that you assess for trauma- and stressor-related disorders.
For this assignment, read 1 case from Ch. 8, “Trauma Discussion: Trauma and Adolescent Development– and Stressor-Related Disorders,” of The Clinical Assessment Workbook: Balancing Strengths and Differential Diagnosis.
Use the Biopsychosocial Assessment form located on the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Resources website in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling menu.
Conduct a biopsychosocial assessment of the client described in your case.
Consider these instructions:
If a Mini Mental Status Exam isn’t completed, indicate that in the cognitive section of the Mental Status part of the assessment.
Although the case study may not provide in-depth information for all sections of the biopsychosocial assessment, please use the information as provided, and note if there is no information given for a specific area.
Complete a 525-word assessment using the Biopsychosocial Assessment form for your selected case. Use full sentences and appropriate grammar.
Support your assessment with appropriate terminology from DSM-5-TR.
Include a minimum 175-word case conceptualization that explains the issues, symptoms, and diagnosis framed in a theoretical lens.
