American dancing

You can write about a dance that you think qualifies as American dance but is not mentioned in the book. You will need to have a clear thesis/argument regarding why you think your dance qualifies as American dance. In this paper, you’d need to define/describe the dance, give a sense of its history and who has performed it, and what you think makes it American dance. Minimum three sources, and you will need to cite your sources, both in-text citations as well as have a Works Cited page. Don’t forget to cite the dance itself. You don’t *have* to have a video to show if you can’t find one, but it certainly would help. Here is where you can get help with citations: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/.

You can focus more attention on a dance she mentions only briefly in the book. Same rules as #1 apply.

You can write about a dance that you think qualifies as America Dancing in today (in otherwords, what would be America Dancing in the 2000s?). Same rules as #1 apply.

For all of the above, 5-7 pages, double spaced. What I want to see, mostly, is a clear thesis that tells me what you are trying to prove regarding this dance, that you have a sense of what Pugh defines as America dancing or American dance throughout the book, and that you clearly contextualize the dance both in its performing of it, and its history within America. I am trying not to give too many guidelines because I want to see what you do! I can’t wait to see how you respond to this prompt!

This will be due, WITHOUT EXTENSIONS, August 12, by midnight.

……………….Answer preview……………….

The America’s dance history is a reflection of the country’s fractured culture, replete with dancers from diverse backgrounds but whose repertoire is as a result of the mix and influences of all these different cultures. As a result, what we have are dances that have been created as a result of learning, imitating, and stealing from one another……………………
