Evidence-based practice implementation improves quality improvement in any organization, benefiting the patient and the community from transparent care. However, resistance to implementing evidence-based practices occurs at an individual or organizational level. Many individuals encounter setbacks when colleagues resist change and must communicate their points creatively (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023).When disseminating evidence-based practices, all stakeholders must be involved going forward. Regardless of active participation or not, stakeholder participation is necessary, as some changes require policy revision and implementation at an organizational level or higher. Planning is necessary, as many aspects are involved, such as financial impact and human relations, as change is widespread and individuals are often resistant (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2011).
Before implementing evidence-based practices in my organization, I would first look at the processes and policies that could be affected and start having conversations with colleagues about areas for improvement. This allows me first to scope out persons resistant to change. The first persons I would officially pitch my ideas to would-be like-minded individuals who would support change through visual representations in the form of a flyer or fact sheet. Before going to management officially, I would compose a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the pros and cons of EBP implementation in the organization. The forum I would use to present my ideas would be a team meeting when all parties are present and time is available to discuss the relevant issue. However, I would use social media to engage upper management and a wider community. My reason for utilizing these various strategies is that social media platforms are becoming very popular within the nursing profession and are far-reaching. The other more traditional methods can be complied with in a professional presentation and distributed. Persons tend to be interested in visual information instead of just written forms of communication (Ross-Hellauer et al., 2020).Barriers I presume I would encounter using traditional methods such as visual presentation can result in people throwing the information away and failing to read it. To overcome these barriers, I can supplement it with an electronic source through web links. For example, when my previous unit implemented some quality improvement strategies to improve medication compliance among our inpatients, we created a PowerPoint with various graphs and visuals to represent the data; the staff and management got our point, and implementation was much more manageable.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential part of nursing practice (Newhouse et al., 2007). There are several steps to take prior to implementing evidence-based solutions. The dissemination step is important in the EBP process. In evidence-based practice (EBP) the dissemination or distribution of information is an important part of the process. EBP results in better patient outcomes and higher nursing autonomy (Newhouse et al., 2007). The purpose for dissemination of information in EBP is to spread knowledge and evidence-based interventions to a health-related issue (McCormack et al., 2013). There are a few goals of EBP which include increasing the reach of evidence, increasing people’s motivation to use/apply evidence and increasing people’s ability to use/apply evidence (McCormack et al., 2013).
Two dissemination strategies that I would use to distribute evidence-based solutions would be educational workshops and online training. The educational workshops will allow nurses and other health care providers to gain in person knowledge, but also hands on experience. The online training would reinforce the knowledge gained from the workshops. Educational resources such as workshops and online training would be a great asset to the dissemination of evidence-based practice. Two barriers that I might face when using these dissemination strategies include lack of participation from staff and poor internet access for people who do the online training at home. These barriers can be remedied by ensuring people are given CE credits for attending the workshop or some type of incentive/compensation. To resolve the poor internet access, have people try and use work computers to complete online training.
The dissemination strategies I would least likely use would include e-mailing evidence-based information to nurses and other healthcare staff. Sometimes people don\’t review their e-mail or have limited access to it. I would also try and avoid using nurse huddle time to disseminate information. During this time nurses are focused on getting report, reviewing patient charts and visiting their assigned patients. Disseminating evidence-based information is a crucial step in the EBP process. It is important for researchers to use effective dissemination methods that allows information to be passed on smoothly. If there is enough high-quality evidence from research to change practice, the practice is changed (Melnyk, 2012). If information is disseminated appropriately, it will improve the implementation of it.
