Quantitative research and qualitative research are two different types of methods. When choosing a topic, one method of research may be more fitting to use over the other. Quantitative research is connected to numbers and statistics, data and figures, the use of mathematical models, or skills that can be taught directly (Beck, 2018). Qualitative research looks at a person, their behaviors, beliefs, experiences, attitudes and interactions with others. Reano, & et al. (2019) explain the qualitative studies, look at a description of a phenomenon, find the theme or themes that relate to that phenomenon, examine the outcomes to understand why the individuals reacted the way they did to the phenomenon. Both are needed, but the right type of study needs to match with the researcher’s capstone project. My field looks at both. In early childhood education we are assessing the students\’ learning needs, by checking their testing scores, but we are also evaluating their behaviors. We are able to match their behavior to their learning abilities. It is important to have both of these types of methodologies to gain a better understanding of how our students are learning, and how we are able to improve our teaching and environments to help our students succeed.
