Per the instructions given in class, utilize your coin toss to determine how you will respond to any event that might cause you some stress/distress (frustration, anger, etc). At that actual time, you will toss your coin and based on the directions, govern yourself accordingly. Remember, if you get sugar (heads), you can (or not) take 10 seconds to be ridiculous, attitudinal, angry, anxious, pissed off, act a fool, etc., and immediately after, you must take the sweet sugar approach. This means amongst other things, that you must slow down and stop acting a fool over something silly, or even consider that the human being on the other end of your perceived mess might have been frustrated or upset by something as well. If you get lemons (tails), you will assume your usual behavior ie get all stressed out, mad, angry, about to have a stroke, fool acting, pissed off, yelling/screaming, etc. You will use this strategy at least 2 times per day for an entire week, ending on Sunday. You will and MUST start today. At the completion of the exercise, answer the questions below. You should keep a simple tally of how many times you got lemons (tails) or sugar (heads), and include that total in your responses (#1). Don’t forget to always have your coin with you at all times.
KEEP THE NUMBERED FORMAT (NO PARAGRAPHS)
1. First, how many times did you get “heads” and how many times did you get “tails”
2. How did you react when “heads” showed up? How was your behavior different? What reaction did you get/what was the outcome?
3. Similarly, what did you notice about the “lemon” approach—were you more aware of your behavior? How? Why?
4. What happened to your mood after these events? Was there any difference between the two approaches? If so, what was it?
5. What have been your learnings, particularly your personality, from this exercise?
