Misuse of company time and resources and lying go hand and hand
Response 1.) Deborah
Misuse of company time and resources and lying go hand and hand. Stealing time involves employees misrepresenting how much time they\’ve worked in order to fool an employer. The devious practice amounts to stealing, and employees typically should be fired for such unethical behavior. For example we had an employee who would clock in for work and then leave the building to run errands. It was brought to her director’s attention who informed the security officer. The security officer pulled the camera and this was done on a daily basis. The employee was fired on the spot. Stealing time is the same as stealing money because employees get paid for work they didn\’t do. There is no way to actually prevent this from happening. I believe the most effective approach is to design and enforce a clear ethical policy that describes what employees may and may not do on company time. Be sure to include specific details about infractions, as well as what penalties the employees should expect.

Fraud can be defined as a person dishonestly making a false representation, intending to make a gain for themselves. However, bribery can be defined as offering or rewarding improper duty (Herrera & Rodriguez, 2007). Recently, our office was involved in a dispute with contractors that led to bribery and fraud. The criminal charges put a computer contractor out of business and jailed the military officials. They were both convicted on conspiracy and bribery charges for defrauding the U.S. government under multiple contracts in exchange for cash and merchandise. In order to prevent this from happening again, the Military department is forming a team to educate military personnel on the importance of ethics and refresher training.
The military personnel was part of a scheme in which they used government funds to purchase laptops and recycled computer components from the contractor\’s sales manager at inflated prices and split the overcharged amounts among themselves. One employee received prison time and three years probation and was ordered to pay restitution. The other military personnel was sentenced to 22 months in jail and three years of probation.
The sales manager received a similar sentence. The computer contractor was indicted on nine felony counts and subjected to asset forfeiture of millions of dollars. The charges were later withdrawn after the company filed for bankruptcy. The investigation also resulted in five other individuals charged with prison time and ordered to pay combined thousands in restitution.

Based on the course material, detail two or three biblical principles (include biblical passages as well) pertinent to this course.
Colossians 3:16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. This scripture is pertinent to this course because it teaches Christians to dwell in excellent and productive thoughts with others. W should be thankful for the opportunities that have been provided for each person.
Do you agree or disagree? Why?
I agree with this scripture because of my experiences when there is harmony versus conflict on the job and in my personal life. Ethics teaches us to
2 Timothy 2:15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. This scripture speaks to how we conduct ourselves (personal, work, family, relationships). Doing the right thing involving other people or situations is not easy. This scripture says, \”do your best.\” The commitment of employees develops when they believe their future is tied to the organization
Do you agree or disagree? Why?
I agree because, as an employee of an organization, the company provides a means of securing a better personal life outside the establishment.

According to Ferrell et al. (2022), the way to determine if a course of action is ethical or unethical is to assimilate the various stakeholders\’ perspectives. This technique for ethical decision-making needs to be revised because it does not point to objective truth as the source of measuring actions as ethical or unethical. The concept of \”ethical dilemma,\” as defined by Ferrell et al. (2022), appears to assume there is no objective standard for right and wrong. Depending solely on the collective views of stakeholders makes it difficult to focus on an objective standard.
The scriptures provide clear guidance on two principles, unselfishness and love for others. Philippians 2:3-4 reads, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (ESV Study Bible, 2008).
Applying scripture to business situations can provide greater certainty about the ethics of the dilemma and lead to an optimal and ethical resolution. For example, what should a physician do when a patient shows up 15 minutes late for their appointment and the physician has a strict policy that allows no more than 10 minutes so that a patient arriving 15 minutes late will be turned away and told to reschedule? As a stakeholder, the physician cannot operate an efficient practice if many of their patients are 15 minutes late. However, rather than turning the patient away the first time they are late, the physician can issue a warning the first time and go ahead and treat the patient on the current visit. The passage in Philippians supports this position.
