Augmented reality (AR), defined as an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology

Week 8 second Discussion Board I need feedback for this matter

Augmented reality (AR), defined as an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.), is technology that has been on the market for years. Some well-known examples of technologies that utilizes augmented reality are Pokémon Go, an AR-based smartphone game, and Google Glass, a wearable technology worn on one’s head that has been on the market since 2013.

One current implementation of AR, overlaying data typically consumed from a computer or smartphone screen right in the path of one’s peripheral vision, will begin taking more advanced forms within the next ten years. Just as Google Glass has demonstrated before, people will be able to read and reply to work emails from the lenses of their glasses. GPS navigation directions will be overlayed right on the windshield of a car and assist the driver without ever having to move their eyes off the road. It will be possible to order meals at a fast-food restaurant from an interactive menu displayed over a clear pane of glass.

Future advancements in augmented reality will make digital communications more hands-free and instantaneous than ever before but may come at a price. As a benefit, users will be able to send and receive messages without touching a smartphone or a keyboard. However, AR will also contribute to issues that result from being connected online twenty four hours a day. Being constantly bombarded with alerts, news updates, and online ads will create feelings of \”digital overload\” and may further blur the lines between the digital world and reality. AR may be key to the future of digital communications, but not without some drawbacks.
