The occupation that I am searching for information on is registered nurse. Registered nurses’ employment code is 29-1141, listed under Healthcare Practitioners and technical occupations. There is a difference in the annual employment wage between the nurse’s specialty and the department in healthcare. The mean pay for registered nurses is $82,750, and the median pay is $77,600. The hourly page wage was different as well in a variety of industries. For instance, nurses in nursing homes have an annual wage salary of $72,260, and nurses who work in general medical and surgical hospitals have an annual wage salary of $85,020.
The percentile of 10% of $28.58 means that less than 10% of nurses get paid $28.58 and have an annual wage of 59,450, and less than 25% of nurses have an hourly wage of $29.71 and have an average annual wage salary of $61,790. In the 50% percentile, the nurses’ hourly wage median is $37.31, and the annual wage salary is $77,600. In the 75% percentile, the hourly wage is $46.91, and the annual wage is $97,580. The lowest-paid states were colored in light blue which included: South Dakota-$60,540, Iowa-$64,990, Kansas-$66,560, Missouri-$67,790, Oklahoma-$68,180, Arkansas-$68,810, Indiana-$68,890, Kentucky-$67,260, Tennessee-$66,680,West Virginia-$67,640, Mississippi-$63,130 and Alabama-$61,920.
The information that I found in step 1 is that the mean pay for most nurses in the U.S is $82,750, and the median pay at 50% was $77,600. I noticed that the hourly wages and annual salaries differed depending on the department and the nurse’s specialty. The percentiles from 10% to 90% show different hourly mean wages and annual median salaries. 10% of nurses got paid $28.58, and 90% of nurses’ hourly wage was $57.51. The median annual salary for 10% is $59,450, and at 90%, the annual salary is $120,250.
The states like California, Oregon, Alaska, and Massachusetts were the highest median salary ranging from $128,00 to $96,630. Those states were coded darker blue to distinguish between the states on the map. The lowest-paid states included South Dakota, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas, ranging from $60,540 to $65,810 because they might have a low cost of living in those states compared to the higher states with a high cost of living. The state that I reside in is Illinois. To calculate the range is by subtracting the 10% percentile of $56,640 from the 90% percentile of $100,650, which equals $41,010, indicating this is the average median salary for nurses working in Illinois. Based on the data, I would not move to a different state because companies give out raises yearly or monthly depending on the years you have worked in the department, causing your salary and hourly rate to change. Before I make a final decision, I would like to know the statistics on how long a nurse’s salary gets increased after working for a certain number of years in a particular department. This information can help me decide if it is beneficial to stay or move to a different state. The effect of the lowest and highest paid states on calculating the mean and median are highly significant because the lowest paid states had a lower mean and median annual wages that varied from $35,690 to $68,890 and the higher states had annual median salaries from $82,660 to $124,000. The effect significantly impacted the high and low states by showing a significant increase and decrease in the median and median for each state. If my potential employer had asked me to measure how to find the average earnings from my occupation, I would start looking at the Bureau of Labor Statistics website to find the income and percentiles provided for each state. Then I would do more research on finding current articles that can provide accurate information to help me find better evidence to support the average earrings of the occupation. For instance, the median average salary for a licensed practical nurse is $24.93, but it can vary depending on the percentile. The median is also the best tool to provide the best typical value when outliners are present to explain accurate data.
