Healthcare mergers have been prevalent in the last 20 years
Susanne Dean
Healthcare mergers have been prevalent in the last 20 years because, in theory, they were meant to save failing healthcare firms. By merging, the access to care could remain the same while merging costs with another healthcare entity could mean greater efficiency, lower costs, and more coordinated patient care (Gee, 2018). This has not been the case. One of the greatest barriers in this performance is the increase in administrative tasks between health providers and insurance providers. Because of increasing regulatory requirements and decreasing reimbursements, the revenue cycle is becoming more complex (Laur, 2022). More back office costs to sort through the insurance claims are taking up the so called lower costs of mergers and not passed on to the consumer.
