Employment discrimination can still be found in all industries across the country.

Unfortunately, employment discrimination can still be found in all industries across the country. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 defined protected classes of people aiming to reduce discrimination by holding employer’s responsible. Under Title VII of the Act, an individual’s race, color, religion, sex, or national origin is considered a protected class. Age and pregnancy have also been federally recognized protected classes by subsequent legislation.

Discuss if you believe these protected classes go far enough to prevent discrimination in the workplace. Would you add any additional classes of people, if so who and why? Lastly, have you ever experienced any form of discrimination in your employment? If so, how did you resolve the situation?

History of Sets of Numbers

This week you are introduced to the set of complex numbers and imaginary numbers.  As you saw in week one, we have many different categories for numbers, and the study of these sets is called Set Theory.

For your discussion this week, choose a number system, set of numbers, or set of numerals to research. Look specifically for facts about their history. After you have researched and read multiple (at least 2) sources, write a discussion post with 2 paragraphs totaling 150 words.

In the first paragraph, summarize and teach us what you learned. Include specific historical facts such as dates, people, and cultures involved.

In your second paragraph, reflect on what you learned. Tell us what you found interesting and how it may have changed your perspective on   numbers. Share any other thoughts you may have after doing your research. References to a minimum of 2 sources are required. List the URLs at the bottom of your discussion post. These don’t count towards the 150-word count.

In your replies, you can comment on what you learned from their post, and compare their information to what you learned. If you have questions or want more information, ask your classmate, and be specific.
