The First World War was aggravated by Militarism and alliances. Militarism is identified as the main course of the war as it was an arm’s race. Britain had a large army during the time thus intensified interest from other countries including Germany who wanted to build their army. In contrast, France portrayed its interest of building a large army (Kelly, n.d.). Thus, many of the countries introduced universal conscription even though peace was prevailing at the moment.
