Critical review of the play King Charles III
The Queen is dead meaning after a lifetime of waiting, it is time for the prince to ascend to the throne. This play by Mike Bartlett is one controversial “future history” and “drama’ play that gives the audience a sneak peak at what happens beneath the crowns. The play derives inspiration from Shakespearean historical play “King Charles III”. The play set in the Greater London environment was first performed at the Almeida Theatre in London on April 10 2014. Ruprt Goold directed it. The play has since won the 2015 London Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play and the 2015 Winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Play.
