Conservative Approach and Liberal Approach

Under the conservative approach, many people engage in criminal activities because they believe that it is possible to get away with it. Other people refrain from criminal activities because of the fear of being punished once they are caught. On the other hand, the liberal approach views the crime causes as more complex, and stresses on both the social/cultural and psychological causes (Bernstein, 2010).

As explained by Siegel & Worrall (2014), the liberal approach is the most appropriate in improving the correction system. This is supported by the fact that the liberal approach takes into consideration the major causes of crime before identifying possible solutions.
