Part I: Continuous Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement Theories
For this Assessment, you will explore the different theoretical perspectives of the early field of quality improvement. You will address the following four questions:
1) Shewhart, Crosby, Demining, Juran, and Feigenbaum are all pioneers and/or experts in the field of quality improvement. How do their theoretical perspectives on quality differ?
2) One of the key development rules directly related to the underlying philosophy of continuous quality improvement is that process errors should be prevented or detected at their earliest stage. Why do you think this is one of the key rules in continuous quality improvement?
3) What is PDCA? Why is it such a powerful model?
4) What are the positive arguments for the use of CQI in health care, arguments that are not usually applicable to the industrial sector?
Part II: Design and Use of Quality Improvement Tools
1) In this part of the Assessment, you will utilize one of the quality/performance tools, the interview process. The interview is a valuable data-gathering tool to utilize in the formation of CQI/PI teams and in understanding the process behind CQI/PI efforts.
2) You will develop an interview tool used to interview a local organization (or your own organization) regarding a current, past, or planned quality improvement process. You will use this tool for planning and executing your interview conducted at a later time.
3) Your interview outline tool must include a minimum of 10 questions regarding the following elements:
a. Team design and structure
b. Goals and design of the quality improvement project at this institution
c. Data collection/analysis (completed or planned)
d. Feedback/review processes
e. Questions specific to the organization

Along with a list of your interview questions, please write a brief summary describing the organization that you are interviewing.
Minimum Submission Requirements

This Assessment should be a Microsoft Word (minimum 750 words) document, in addition to the title and reference pages.
Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
Your submission should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.
A separate page at the end of your submission should contain a list of references, in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations where appropriate and reference all sources. Your sources and content should follow proper APA citation style. Review the writing resources for APA formatting and citation found in Academic Tools. Additional writing resources can be found within the Academic Success Center.
Your submission should:
include a cover sheet;
be double-spaced;
be typed in Times New Roman, 12 -point font;
include correct citations
be written in Standard English with no spelling or punctuation errors; and
include correct references at the bottom of the last page.

If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
