Question 1
The case study talks about Shania’s intention to create a business in the future. She is a mature Christian and should understand both world view and biblical view of business operation considering the interesting parties in the case. I would advise Shania to consider a limited liability company (LLC) because she will include any partner based on their role and contribution to the business. Unlike other options available in this case, LLC is a flexible form of business that can allow her to invest more resources and time on matters related to the company (Fershee, 2021). Forming LLC will enable her to decide during the start of the business or in the future to include potential partners in the business. She can make any changes to the structure of the organization to accommodate new partners. For instance, her husband Marvin is a potential partner; he is interested in contributing to the business but does not take any role in the day-to-day operation of the business. LLC, therefore, is flexible to make adjustments and include such partners without any procedural formalities. In Deuteronomy 8:18, the Bible says that “God gives us the ability to create wealth, He is the one who gives that ability to produce wealth, make money and cut deals” (The Holy Bible 2016). it implies that with God’s word, Shania can succeed in business and create wealth; it is essential to consider strategic moves to attain the best outcomes and accomplish God’s will in the long run (Mäki-Soini, 2021). Shania should believe in God and take necessary precautions to ensure the effective start of the business; LLC is a suitable approach and can help create considerable wealth in a short time.
An LLC is a type of business entity that incorporates the partnership concepts of business and sole praetorship. It provides a limited liability protection aspect of a corporation, operational flexibility, and tax efficiency (Prasetyo et al. 2020). LLC also provides no restriction on the number of partners allowed to join a business, and partners are not necessarily responsible for liabilities and business debts. Therefore, I consider LLC would be ideal for Shania because Marvin can, in any case, make contributions to the venture. For the initial capital, it would be necessary for her to consider her husband’s contribution to the business; more capital means a strong start. Involving other people in business is essential; in proverbs 27:17, the Bible says that “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (The Holy Bible 2016). It implies that people need other’s support to succeed.
Question 2
After using “The Gathering Place” as the keyword to search for its availability in Colorado, the name is no longer available for use because a non-profit organization has taken it. The trademark for this name has also expired because it is known as past trademarks. Therefore, it is unfortunate that Shania would not be able to use her desired business name. However, there are other names available that are suitable for the business, such as “The Gathering Niche” and “Java Lava Hideout,” this name is open for use, and she can consider applying them in place of the name she is thinking about. I would advise Shania to consider names that have something directly related to coffee because her business is based on a coffeehouse; she should try to avoid complex names that make it hard to connect her services and the business’s name.
She must choose the name that I both catchy and unique to the business where a client can pass by the front door and walk in after reading the catchy name of the business (Bulatovic, Škori? & Jovanovi?, 2016). The name of a business is vital for building a reputable brand in the market (Stothers, 2017). even if the Gathering Place” were available, it would be a wrong choice in my view because it doesn’t have anything to do with a coffee-based business. Under the Colorado State Laws of business, She must use a name that s unique and have a valid trademark (Colorado General Assembly, 2018). Besides considering Christian perspectives for the business, Shania should also focus on introducing a marketable and attractive name in the market.
Question 3
The parties who have shown considerable interest in the business are Marvin, her neighbor Carlos, and her sister Kelsey. Marvin is one of the interested parties who want to contribute to the capital of the business and not participate in any given role that makes him the most suitable partner, especially if Shania decides to choose an LLC business entity. Marvin’s interest in the business is for financial success and acts as an encouragement to his wife; it identifies the essence of marriage in business (Gerdeman, 2018). Therefore, I highly recommend that Shania should consider her husband’s interest and proceed to receive his contributions. Her husband wants to be a salient investor, which LLC allows, and besides, the Bible recommends supporting spouses. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-11, the Bible says that “two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up: Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?” (The Holy Bible 2016). Therefore, Marvin would be following God’s will and exercising his duty as a responsible and supportive husband from a Christian view.
I would also advise Shania to accepts all assistance about the business; Carlos wants to participate in the business. Despite being a no-Christian, she should welcome him to show inclusivity as Christianity requires. Christians are required to open doors for anyone regardless of their beliefs; it an opportunity for Shania to her neighbor about the word of God (Melé & Fontrodona, 2017). She may succeed in involving Carlos in business and also transition him towards Christianity. In Jude 1:22, the Bible notes that “And have mercy on those who doubt” (The Holy Bible 2016). It implies that having commitment and compassion towards non-believers or those who doubt biblical values is the only way that can help us introduce the gospel to those of them. Kelsey is a new Christian and a married woman; she has been looking for an excuse to leave her house. However, she should honor her husband and his decisions, but Ephesians 5:25 says that “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (The Holy Bible 2016). Therefore, he should not be blinded by his ignorance and should support his wife in achieving her dreams. Shania can accept her sister’s help in business and be a good source of advice and assistance.
