4. Let Castro, the teacher from \”Dead Poets Society,\” the student from \”Freedom Writers\” be your inspiration and create an original poem of your own. What do you have to say? How are you feeling, about life, your age, the modern age, the past, today political landscape. Race? Class? Remember, poetry moves us into and through the complex and dynamic world of human experience. Your poem can be narrative, like the student\’s journal from \”Freedom Writers,\” or like \”Snapping Beans,\” and \”Jazz,\” or it can be observations, like \”Those Winter Sundays\” or \”Holler if Ya Hear Me.\” You can string together a series of images like \”Harlem.\” And you can use any of the pieces as models for what your poem can look like. All sincere and honest attempts will accepted.
