When choosing an Oscar best picture film, I loved the movie Titanic, it is a beautiful sad love story. The story Titanic is told by an old woman by the name of Rose DeWitt Bukater, stating her recollection of when her young self sailed on the Titanic and what events occurred during her stay. She tells her tragic love story where she survived to share her experiences. While sailing aboard the Titanic on the upper-class level, she meets a man by the name of Jack Dawson (a poor/lower class man), who’d won his ticket to sail the titanic by playing a lucky hand of poker. They fall for each other fairly quickly when Rose is threatening to jump off the Titanic because of troubles in her life, Jack helps and saves her off the ledge. Rose was already engaged to Caledon Hockley who was a rich ignorant man. Jack and Rose keep seeing each other on the boat even though Rose’s mother disapproved and is a rich snob just like Rose’s fiancé. One night while they were having fun on the lower levels of the ship, the Titanic hit a big iceberg they couldn’t avoid since it was much larger underwater than it appeared to be on the surface. That is when the Titanic began to sink fairly quickly. All women and children were asked to climb aboard small boats and some less fortunate poor people were left locked downstairs. Caledon hated Jack so much that he planted a very expensive piece of jewelry in Jack’s pockets to make it look like he stole it after he finished painting a picture of a rose and while she was getting dressed. The security took him down in the lower levels and handcuffed him and left him there. Rose went to look for him and set him free with half the boat already sank. With a lot of struggle, they finally managed to get on the deck of the ship where Rose was forced by her fiancé to get on a small boat. Rose was staring at Jack while she was being lowered and couldn’t bare the thought of being without him so she jumped off the small boat onto the sinking Titanic. Caledon tries to kill both because of his outrage that his fiancé was in love with another man pushing the couple in the lower levels of the sinking ship. After the ship sinks, Rose is laying on a floating door while Jack was getting frozen by the icy waters holding on to the floating door. Jack eventually dies from being too cold moments before help arrives. When Rose got to safety she sees Caledon looking for her and she hides from him. She lost her true love and never forgot him. The reason I love it because the story talks about love, how it doesn’t have a value and how mysterious love can be. The Titanic movie won \”Best Picture\” because of its truly captivating love story and because it covered an important event in American History. The film was directed by James Cameron, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet.

Good afternoon professor and classmates,
The film I chose is Forest Gump. Forest Gump was directed by Robert Zemeckis, and the lead actors are Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (also known as Tom Hanks) which played as Forest Gump and Robin Gayle Wright which played as Jenny Curran. The film was published in 1994 and it goes over many historical happenings such as the Watergate scandal, the creation of the \”Apple\” (or Macintosh) company, the founding of Bubba Gump Shrimp, and the Vietnam War. The main plot of the story follows Forest Gump throughout his life starting off as a young child. It began with him riding the school bus with his friend, Jenny. This is where the famous line \”run Forest, run\” comes into play. Forest was bullied as a child for having braces on his legs and having a low IQ. Forest taught Elvis his dance moves, saved lives in the Vietnam War, and created the saying \”shit happens\”, all fictionally of course.
Milestones that Forest Gump represented in film history would be becoming one of the top selling movies of the year. Forest Gump also was one of the first movies to use old footage to make it seem like characters in the movie were interacting with other celebrities when they actually weren\’t. Another noticeable milestone noted was that Lieutenant Dan had his legs digitally amputated, meaning that his legs were not altered physically in order to make him appear as an amputee. I chose this movie only because it was the only movie on the list that actually seemed familiar. I do not watch a lot of TV or movies but, I have watched Forest Gump many times in my life and I enjoy it.
