The writing project for this semester involves a sustained reflection and analysis of a current issue of injustice, using both philosophical and Franciscan tools. Your paper will make use of the Franciscan methodology of awareness and reflective analysis in order to identify action that promotes justice. Throughout the semester, you will be working on this project, integrating insights and sources as we proceed. The final paper, 10-12 pages in length, typed and double spaced, will be an integration of ethical and Franciscan sources in order to defend your own proposed response to a current environmental, economic, political or social issue of injustice.
The paper will be submitted in three phases:
Phase 1: The identification of the problem linked to your current thinking and research that informs a solution. This phase provides you with the opportunity to clearly identify the area of injustice you wish to focus on. This first paper draws upon any initial Franciscan assessment you have and can provide. The more concrete the injustice, the better. I encourage you to bring as much good thinking and some reading to this first assessment as you can, from reputable sources. Check out the library, internet resources that have depth of analysis on issues of justice: (UN sites, UNESCO, Human Development sites, Franciscan Action Network (https://Franciscanaction.org), Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation at various sites, including (https://franciscansinternational.org).
In this first, paper, consider the following:
1) What do you currently know about this issue of injustice?
2) What do you currently assess to be the deeper, underlying causes, influences on it?
3) What are the Franciscan values that you believe could be relevant for a solution?
4) How do you currently view action to remedy this injustice.
This first paper is 3-4 pages in length, some files included may help.
