Is curiosity the first step toward doom as we see in The Inferno

Post A

It was once said that our modern day notions of hell are directly taken from Dante’s fictional account of his journey into the center of the inferno. As you read, I want you to notice how increasily violent, heartless, and curious Dante becomes. He leaves the right path and must journey toward Satan in order to find the right path. The anti-climatic ending indicates, I think, that the devil was with him the whole time — that Satan did not show up at the end but was with him when he took his first step in the wrong direction.

This allows us to think about Satan and human nature very differently.

Is curiosity the first step toward doom as we see in The Inferno? How does the devil work to get us to stray off the right path? Are Dante’s vivid descriptions of the various torments of the damned yet another sign that Dante was, perhaps, enjoying the trek toward Satan, thereby indicating that Dante’s journey was somewhat of an indulgence in sin?

1. Yes, curiosity is the first step towards doom. To get us t stray off the right path the devil tricks us through manipulation. As humans all of us suffer the traps of confusion and doubt. We sometimes believe in doing justly, but as soon as we feel we are close to our destiny the devil uses other people or things in order to watch us suffer through difficult times and pain. In this situation Dante is blocked by d beasts of worldliness which are the leopard of malice or ill will n fraud, the lion of violence and ambition, and the she wolf of incontinence. Dante’s vivid descriptions of the various torments of the damned does not mean that Dante was enjoying the trek toward satin or indicate that dante’s journey was somewhat of an indulgence n sin.

2. The Inferno by Dante

Dante is incurably curious and his weakness is his desire for knowing. He was a poet that desired know everyone’s story during his journey through the 9 circles. In some of the circles he would get so excited when he saw certain people that his guide Virgil would have to remind him of the journey. Yes his love for poetry makes him somewhat of an indulgence in sin. Being Curious is a gift from God. The Disciples in the Bible were always curious and asking Jesus questions. Jesus gave us free will on how to use our being curious. When we choose to go down the wrong path with our curiosity it can be a very dangerous thing. Proverbs 27:20 says Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied and James: 14-15 Instead, each person is tempted by his own desires, being lured and trapped by it. When the desire becomes pregnant, it gives birth to sin: and when that sin grows up, it gives birth to death are 2 Bible verses that explain it well. The devil can work in many ways to get us to stray off the right path. The devil tempted Eve into eating of the fruit and Jesus with bread when he was on a fast. Because Jesus had strong faith he did not eat any bread. Unlike Jesus sometimes our faith is not that strong and we give in just like the people in the play.
