1. In light of the statement arguing that kids nowadays are getting too much information from the social media and began to lose the innocence that children should have, Sternheimer argues that just like many other social ideas that are constructed by people, a perfect childhood is also an idealized, uniform and nostalgic views by people who are nostalgic about their own childhood. Social media brings revolutionary changes to human society and the childhood children having today is completely different from the kind of childhood the last generation had. People fear about things they do not know, and kids acting differently from them when they were kids scares them, and it is easy for parents to blame it on social media. I believe there has been a trend towards protection over preparation and the overwhelming criticize about the harm media has done to children is the very evidence. For instance, my own experience of childhood supports my idea about why I think there is more protection over preparation as I grew up in the period where new stuff like computer just came out, but I never found it less fun playing computer games with my friends when I was 12 than playing in the nature with cute animals when I was 8.

2. During the Victorian Era, the notion of childhood evolved into a celebration of innocence and virtue, presenting the idealized way of life with purity and carefree. The idea and presentation of childhood has been evolving under different social context as time goes by. For instance, in the nineteenth-century, childhood memories involve mocking funerals, reflecting anything but happy-go-lucky childhood experiences. In the postwar economic boom period, children are free from economic struggle and are known for having both time and money for leisurely consumption. Socioeconomic factors change all the time, and childhood as a socially defined context also varies with time, and socioeconomic factors play a significant factor in shaping the cultural ideas about the idealized childhood. Parents are not prepared enough to accept the new type of childhood that come along with the scientific and technical revolution (media), and they think the childhood children are having today is not the good childhood because it is different from their own childhood. It is true that media plays an important role in shaping of one generation’s childhood, while media itself is just an outcome of the socioeconomic transactions. Namely, it is the history that has contributed to the change of childhood of the newest generation rather simply one factor like the media or the economy.
