Minority over representation is a problem nationwide at every stage of the criminal justice system.
2)I chose to look at this question from two different perspectives, one being a minority civilian, who have seen and experienced the overrepresentation in minority communities and toward minorities in all communities. From this view my reasons are systemic discrimination and racial profiling. Some people are just becoming aware of the harsh treatment that minorities face on the day to day by law enforcement officials. After reading further about the disparities and how the criminal justice system has always battled with practicing true ethical procedures. Those communities already were designed to face harsher treatment, those communities are purposely giving low respect, yet they are very profitable. According to Gordon, M. B., Roché, S. & Depuiset, M-A. (2012), disparities in the judicial system treatment as well as sentencing discrimination of stigmatized sub-populations have been incriminated by many authors (p. 2). The other perspective is, it does seem like there is a high level of crime happening in communities that house minorities so the overrepresentation would be the perfect response. But looking further into the history of the narrative of the judicial system, I end up at the same reasons.
1) Minority over representation is a problem nationwide at every stage of the criminal justice system. Minorities are over represented not only in prisons but also in juvenile facilities for youth minority over-representation is the result of the early stages in criminal justice including the decision whom to arrest, keeping them in detention for the period of investigation, referring the case to the court and, sentencing as the result. One of the possible explanations for minority over-representation is discrimination, discrimination in the criminal justice is when minority groups have higher chances to be arrested, referred to courts, confined in a security facility. Over-representation occurs at all levels of justice system.Such over-representation is found not in one city, or the particular state, it is the problem of the whole country.
