Why does Dickens spend so much time on different characters’ impressions of Carton?

It is well known that the first impression is always everything, but according to me have realized that this aren’t consisted. There are people who cover up their exact feelings. We sometimes make imprecise assumptions since you never know what people are experiencing when we meet them on the first time. However that’s so true and evident in “A Tale of Two Cities”, by Charles Dickens the kind of literature used is somehow confusing so as to keep people reading them.
