Write a brief research proposal in the area of Big Data and Data Mining

You will write a brief research proposal in the area of Big Data & Data Mining that will be peer reviewed by your classmates. Research proposals require extensive background research, but for this assignment only read and (to some degree) understand one article selected from the IEEE Cloud Computing, IEEE International Conference on Big Data, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, or similar journals. The article you select will form the basis of your proposal.

You are encouraged to read 2 or 3 other papers found on this topic. You may work with another student in the class in understanding the background research, but the proposal submitted must be entirely your own work.

The Rhetorical Situation

SUBJECT (PRIMARY FOCUS)

To determine the subject of the proposal, glance through recent issues from the past few years of the below IEEE journals. Select one article that will define the subject area of the proposal. The proposal is to be written as if you were an expert in the research area (for example, as if you were a co-author of the paper selected).

You can source articles not from IEEE to add support to your research (be sure to include it in your references). IEEE is a starting point.

AUDIENCE (SECONDARY FOCUS)

Assume the audience are people with an interest in computing science professors (who may not all have a strong research or technical background).

CONTEXT

As a research proposal, it is inappropriate to include informal language or jokes. Jargon (and abbreviations) are acceptable but not recommended.

Structure of Proposal

Your proposal will have the sections for:

) Introduction (a single paragraph)

) Problem description (which includes a description of the relevant previous research, background definitions, etc.)

) Objectives of the proposed research (two or three will be fine), which will also contain a brief description of how those objectives could be achieved

) Significance of the proposed research (a single paragraph).

A proposal also contains a summary, budget, detailed experimental design/methodology, schedule, etc. These components are NOT required for this assignment.
