The pros of college and university’s being able to accept Grant’s is that they are able to assist students in furthering their education.  The school benefits substantially from the Grant’s. Cons are the schools have a hard time recording the transactions.

It’s important for colleges and universities to understand how endowments are accounted for within the financial statements because there are some endowments that can provide the college or university with expendable income. Some of the endowments they may receive may not have any restrictions associated with them and that can increase their unrestricted net assets. These endowments could be used to buy new computers and equipment for the school or allow them to be able to offer more scholarships.
