The Cold War between Russia and the United States
The Cold War between Russia and the United States had many effects on society, both in the present and in the past. It especially affected international politics, economics, and military affairs. Our cold War adversaries like China have become one of the United States economic competitors. Once communism has disappeared, countries started to restore the free market economy and democracy. The end of the cold war was good for world business. With the United States and China battling for tariffs, both markets benefited from being open and gaining new customers. With the fall of the Soviet Union and the communistic influence that slowly disappeared allowed new opportunities in Europe and Asia for investing, developing a new global economy, and the industrial revolution. New forms of communication and information caused evolving globalization. Tourism to places once forbidden became easier which resulted in more of a mix of cultures and shared values.
After the Cold War, many thought that peace would return but that wasn’t the case. There is still conflict that exists between former cold war adversaries. There has become an increasing struggle between the United States and the Middle East and Afghanistan. Despite American interventions, Iraq and Afghanistan are still unstable, and there are continued deadly conflicts in Syria and other nations. Therefore, the end of the Cold War did not result in world peace.
