U.S. history
One of the big stories in U.S. history is the tension and differences between the North and
the South, rural and urban America. In 1861-1865, these tensions even led to our Civil
War. Our final essay question is: has the story of the United States between 1877 and today
been one of growing national unity or one of continued and powerful regional and political differences? Argue your case, taking into consideration race, gender, economy, politics,
culture, and other pertinent factors.
Give plenty of clear and specific evidence and examples. Your essays should be carefully
structured: introduction, thesis (answer the question clearly!), evidence and analysis, conclusion.
Remember: to whom much is given, much is expected. I want very well written, informative, and
analytically sound essays. One double-spaced page of vague discussion is NOT enough.
