Key Topic:

Process mapping is defined in our text as a technique to gain a clearer understanding of the process. Process mapping defines and helps view a business process from beginning to end. Process mapping has also been interchangeable with process flow analysis. Process mapping is a type of process technology (Price, Mallik, & Organ, 2017).

A process technology is defined as a process for the design, observation and control in manufacturing to ensure the quality of the final product meets expectation (Price, Mallik, & Organ, 2017). Process mapping or business process in manufacturing follows the process from start to finish to ensure the process meets said expectations and ensures the final product is deliverable to consumers.

Comparison:

Process mapping can be used for analyzing a manufacturing process, such as production, or looking at processes in terms of day to day operation. Processes are used daily throughout businesses whether it is an office setting or a warehouse. Process mapping can be used to help healthcare systems analyze their outpatient wait times and flow of patients being seen compared to how long they are waiting. Healthcare systems have implemented patient flow analysis because overcrowding has become an issue for outpatient services (Aeenparast, Farzadi, Maftoon, & Yahyazadeh, 2019). Observing the patient flow analysis can give an opportunity to healthcare systems to better meet the needs of their patients and show patients they are working on the issues of overcrowding.

Healthcare systems have processes and so do business offices. Process mapping the day to day operations and functions of a business can be beneficial. Process mapping the day to day operations can help the business see where employees are being most productive compared to departments or parts of the day that are less productive. Process mapping can help dive into the overall performance of the company based on the processes taking place at the office (Sousa & Dinis-Carvalho, 2020). Although process mapping has looked different for corporations over the last year. With the majority of employees working from home rather than in a workplace the productivity processes were measured in the same way but from a different aspect.Article

Summary:

This article summary is going to be about the article, The mapping of information communication technologies, and knowledge management processes, with company innovation. The article researches the topics of communication technologies, knowledge management processes, and company innovation with the use of process mapping. Economic development and growth continue to be a growing concern for corporations and process mapping can help enhance the overall performance. Incorporating technology into the workplace is extremely crucial and can allow corporations to be more cost effective while also increasing the employee’s productivity. Process mapping the company innovation can help improve employee contribution to the corporation along with helping the company as a whole. The article explains how productivity improvement can help with innovation and growth (Jarmooka, Fulford, Morris, & Barratt-Pugh, 2020). A key component discussed in the article is how the management of technology is crucial to the learning for the employees, but for this process to be successful there must be understanding of the systems and processes. Communication technologies can help bring new processes to the day to day operations for the corporation. Innovation can help develop new processes that could be more productive and cost effective for the company. Process mapping allows management to see how technology and systems can improve to improve the overall performance.Biblical Integration:2 Peter 1:20-21 says, “Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit”.Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”.Acts 2:38 says, “And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’.”

Application:

The mapping process is especially relevant when researching the medical field. As discussed early in the discussion board, process mapping is apparent when researching outpatient surgeries and wait times. Process mapping is also seen in the field of nursing. Looking at the overview of the nurses’ responsibilities helps to break down their day to day task. The goal of process mapping in the field of nursing is to find out potentially what they are doing beyond their expectations or day to day role. When using a process analysis, the overall goal is to identify the business goals and see how the position is being successful (Hopper & Zborowski, 2018).

The research presented in this article addresses the issue of overcrowding for outpatient appointments and wait times. The discussion explains how overcrowding creates problems for the patients because wait times are higher than normal, but this is also affecting the healthcare system. The overcrowding creates issues with supply and demand and patient satisfaction. Creating a patient flow analysis allows the healthcare systems to identify the issues in their current process and create new processes to potentially mitigate the overflow and reduce the extensive wait times for those patients. The research concluded strengths and weaknesses in their processes and allows them to see the departments that took the most time in and focus on reducing wait times for those particular appointments.

This article researchers how business models and concepts can be practiced in other fields. Even though hospitals are a part of the healthcare system they still have to operate as a business, their goals just look differently than other businesses. The business success for nurses is caring for the sick, reducing wait times, etc. The research goes into detail of how different processes can help better understand the day to day job for nurses and learn how to define their success. Studying and understanding human performance plays a role in process mapping. Mapping out the goals of care for the nurses along with the expected outcomes sets an expectation of desired human performance.

The article research how different communication technologies and management processes can improve company innovation. Mapping the knowledge management processes allows companies to view their overall performance. The overall goal of this article is to first define information and communication technologies and define knowledge management processes. The overall research goal is to bring together these three concepts and explain them so they can be productive for a business. The research aims to bring these concepts together to help achieve different goals within the business along with creating different strategies. Mapping processes can be beneficial for businesses to achieve innovation along with achieving performance goals, and the research presented supports this claim for businesses.

This article written by Gregory Price, Debasis Mallik and Michael Organ in summary looks at the process and flow of manufacturing from the perspective of pharmaceutical manufacturing. The research discusses how manufacturing from beginning to end must be monitored to ensure that the process is timely and able to be measured. The flow of the process in pharmaceuticals is crucial and they discuss this throughout the article. Research on process mapping and process flow can be beneficial in the development of future processes. The purpose of the research is to study process flow and process analysis in means of coming to a greater understanding to find ways to upgrade the process or make it more resource and cost effective.

Sousa, R. M., & Dinis-Carvalho, J. (2020). “A game for process mapping in office and knowledge work”, Production Planning & Control, 32(6), 463-472. doi:10.1080/09537287.2020.1742374

The following article summarizes how to make a game for strategizing the processes taking place in a workplace. The article points out in the very beginning how there is research about process mapping in the world of manufacturing, research about process mapping in the world of science, but there is very minimal research done on process mapping in an office and knowledge work. The article defines how process mapping in office and knowledge work can help management have a better understanding of the overall performance of the company. The systems and processes taking place day to day within the office are equally important to the processes taking place in the manufacturing plant.
