Creative Project 2 Guidelines
- Project 2 is a creative response to a narrative and/or artwork about women. Choose from what we have covered in the course: Bechdel’s Fun Home, stories by Hurston or Hernandez or Campbell, art by Frida Kahlo or Vanessa German, Julie Taymor’s Frida, Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, music by Nina Simone or the women performers in 20 Feet from Stardom. Note: You cannot choose the same author/artist to respond to that you covered in Project 1.
- The project may be written (poem or short fiction), visual (creative PowerPoint, art work), or auditory (monologue or dramatic scene that is given a dramatic reading in class). You may also create your own video. Note: Other types of creative response to narratives or art may be approved in consultation with the instructor.
- On Monday, November 21st, we will have a group/individual presentation brainstorming session. Come with ideas of what you or your group might do in your presentation.
- If you decide to work as a group, everyone in your group should have an equal amount of work. Think about how to distribute the work equally. Each of you should speak for a total of 5 minutes. Make sure you reference the original work that you are basing your creative project on, explaining why you made the choices you made prior to presenting your creative work in response to that work. I suggest you work in groups of 3-5 people. Note: Group projects will receive a single grade based on the collaborative effort of the group.
- If you decide to work alone, you should speak for 5 minutes, presenting your work.
- If you play music or a video, this should take up only 2 minutes of time (in addition to your speaking time). Note: If your project is in video format, your video can take up more time (especially if this is a group project!). Make sure to discuss with me before and I will tell you how long your video can be.
- Come up with an outline of what you will do in your group or individual presentation by the end of class on Monday, November 21st. Be sure to okay it with Dr. Rashid before the end of class.
- A sign-up sheet will go out on Monday, November 21st. Please sign up for your preferred date to present at that time.

“Helen, is everything okay lately? I have noticed a sudden change of your mood and as your friend I am worried and I want to help whatever the situation is.” I said.
